Luba Mason wears many hats in life as, an actress, singer, and wife of Latin superstar musician Ruben Blades. Mason also co-produced the release and wrote 8 of the 10 songs found on Krazy Love.
On, Krazy Love, Mason takes a contemporary jazz sound and adds in a Brazilian flavor to spice it up.
Mason is joined on the release by several well-known musicians including, Renato Neto (piano, keyboards), Jimmy Haslip (bass), Cassio Duarte (percussion), Sandro Albert (guitar) and Marco Costa (drums). You'll also find performances from Hubert Laws and Mason's husband Ruben Blades.
With all of that talent there's still no doubt that the star of this musical show is Mason's silky smooth vocals that flow freely liked slightly warmed honey. Her vocals have an inviting tone that draw you in as each song's story unfolds. The song's subjects are taken from Mason's own life experiences revolving around both happy and not-so-happy moments in her life.
One of the highlights from this release comes on track-5, "E com esse que eu vou," a cover song that has a Brazilian jazz sound and includes both Mason and her husband Ruben Blades performing vocals on it.
I also want to give some credit to the legendary Hubert Laws for his delightful flute work found on, "This House," along with Andy Martin's trombone work on, "Gorgeous Fool." Their parts found in the songs really added a nice little something extra to them.
With Krazy Love Luba Mason does an excellent job of taking jazz music and adding contemporary Latin flavored elements to it that should appeal to a wide audience of listeners.
