From Fred Barton, on Facebook:
Vivian Reed, Luba Mason, Anastasia Barzee, and Bertilla Baker singing my arrangement of "Stormy Man" (i.e. "Stormy Weather" and "Man That Got Away" mixed, mashed, and counterpointed) in Vivian's show last night at 54 Below. I'm at the piano out of sight. This number is the Act Two highlight of Scott Thompson's and my Harold Arlen musical ONE FOR MY BABY, and we designed it to air Arlen's two most famous songs in a new way to avoid the ghosts of their respective original singers weighing on the action. Liza Minnelli was in the audience and gave me a big thumbs up afterwards – of course her mother introduced "Man That Got Away," but also had a smash with "Stormy Weather" at Carnegie Hall in 1961. Vivian also sang my arrangement of "Blues In The Night," her closing number from ONE FOR MY BABY – and Judy Garland had been there the night Arlen and Mercer first played their new 1941 creation, hot off the press.
And from Vivian Reed:
I had such a wonderful time in my show last night and enjoyed all of my special guests and singers. You have been a blessing to me on this musical journey. Bravo to you all....Thank you Epatha for coming to see me last night....I so enjoyed spending time with you after the show and I meant every word I said about you during the show. You are a gifted actress and a pleasure to watch. — with Bertilla Baker, Anastasia Barzee, Luba Mason and S Epatha Merkerson.
